When Paul
came to the end of his life, he said in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good
fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” And in 1 Timothy
6:12, he tells Timothy, “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the
eternal life to which you were called.”

Concerning
his own life of warfare, Paul said earlier, “I do not run aimlessly; I do not
box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control,
lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified” (1 Corinthians
9:26-27).
